You’re finally about to go on holiday. You’re looking great. You’re feeling great. How do you make it through the holiday without trashing your fitness? Holiday’s done right are even better when you incorporate fun movement.
Let’s go.
Movement
Casually
Whether going home for the holidays, or traveling to Rome, there are usually new, and often fun, opportunities to move.
When you’re in a new large city, you can take a tip-based walking tour where you’ll learn about the city’s culture and history while usually putting in 2–3 miles. When you’re not on a tour, find other reasons to walk more. For distances less than a mile, consider walking, and enjoy the sites you’ll see along the way.
You can also plan fun activities that naturally involve movement. You can swim, snorkel, golf, walk through museums, and go for a casual bike ride. While movement is always fun, it’s even more fun in a new location with new sites to see.
Exercise
Another fantastic way to go sightseeing while in a new city is to go for a run. It’s slow enough that you can enjoy the sites but fast enough that you can cover a lot of ground.[1]
Running in a new place often leads to new discoveries. When I traveled to Hawaii this past summer, I went for a run and stumbled upon a local farmer’s market. I paused my run to buy a fresh smoothie, enjoy the scenery, and be among the local people. This kind of discovery while running is common.
Being in a new city, even domestically, is a good excuse to try a new type of exercise. Go to an exercise class you wouldn’t usually take. Try spinning, yoga, calisthenics, or a total body class. The class will be new to you, which adds to the travel excitement feel. A few years ago, I took a yoga class that was held on the sky deck of a skyscraper in Chicago. I also took a yoga class at a Van Gogh-themed immersive exhibit just this year. When I went to Coachella this year, they were holding free dance classes just outside the main venue that some people (not me) attended.
Whatever way you would enjoy, find more fun ways to move while on holiday.
Have a fantastic holiday, and keep working on your LawyerBody
